DARYL SOMERS, 72, DROPS MAJOR HINT ABOUT HIS FUTURE AFTER MORE THAN FIVE DECADES AS A 'PERFORMER AT HEART'

Hey, Hey It's Saturday star Daryl Somers has hinted that he may take his iconic former show out on tour.

The TV legend, 72, was named Victorian of the Year at a Melbourne Town Hall ceremony on Monday and teased the brand new career direction.

The variety show ran for close to three decades until 1999, but has returned for brief reunions over the years.

And while accepting the honour, Somers revealed he was 'serious' about touring highlights from the beloved program, saying he was a 'performer at heart' and missed live entertainment.

'I'm seriously considering going out and touring with the archives because we've digitised well over 20 years worth of Hey Hey,' he shared.

'There are some marvellous backstories to things that happened over that time,' he added.

Somers also paid tribute to his late friend and co-star John Blackman who passed away on June 4.

'You think about the highs and lows in life and this is a high for me at the end of a rather solemn week,' he said.

'Last week, we laid to rest my dear friend John Blackman. John was a passionate and loyal Victorian as well,' he added.

'He is not here, but in part I’d like to dedicate this award to him because we had an endearing friendship. I love the guy – we went back over 50 years.'

Somers was struck by inspiration after the funeral of Blackman in June.

The TV legend paid tribute to Blackman at the service, where he stated the star may be preparing for a series of 'Hey Hey It's Heaven' alongside the show's late co-creator, Ernie Carroll, in the afterlife.

Somers was clearly impressed with his observation, as he's now sought to trademark the slogan, according to a new report.

A trademark application for 'Hey Hey It's Heaven' has been filed by Somers Enterprises Australia Pty Ltd, the Herald Sun reported on Saturday.

The application was reportedly made on June 26, three days after the funeral.
