ARTHUR MIGUEL REFLECTS ON ARTISTIC GROWTH AND NEW EP ‘MU’

Emerging artist in OPM, Arthur Miguel, recently reflected on his journey of self-discovery and artistic growth during a press event for his latest EP, ‘MU.’

At the ‘MU EP Party’ held at Ark Studio in Quezon City on June 21, Arthur Miguel opened up about his initial lack of confidence and how it contrasted with the unexpected impact his music has had on listeners. “Hindi e! Kasi, [noon] wala akong confidence sa sarili. So, hindi ko siya ine-expect na gano’n yung mangyayari. Kaya natutuwa ako kapag gano’n yung mga reaction nila,” he shared with sincerity.

Addressing the inevitability of criticism, Arthur acknowledged its presence in his career. “Hindi siya maiiwasan… Sobrang perfect mo naman kung hindi ka nakatanggap ng negative feedback. Pero tini-take ko na lang siya,” he commented, showing a mature approach to handling negative feedback, particularly accusations of using others for personal gain. “Hindi ko siya sinasagot kasi the more na sagutin mo, the more na may sasabihin sila, and lalo lang lalala yung issue.”

The highlight of Arthur’s EP, ‘MU,’ is its lead single, “Malabong Ugnayan,” a collaboration with bedroom pop star Jikamarie. This track explores the complexities of relationships without clear definitions, resonating deeply with Filipino listeners. Arthur explained that working with Jikamarie enhanced the song’s R&B vibe, completing its emotional landscape.

Beyond ‘Malabong Ugnayan,’ the EP includes four B-side tracks: ‘Isaoras,’ ‘GHINOST,’ ‘Dati,’ and ‘Maling Panahon.’ Departing from his previous acoustic pop style, Arthur has ventured into new musical territories with ‘MU,’ integrating diverse sounds while retaining his distinctive songwriting style.

Contrasting with his earlier album ‘Pasahili,’ which focused on unrequited love, ‘MU’ delves into the nuances of hope and heartbreak in uncertain relationships. Arthur’s intention with the EP’s upbeat yet emotionally resonant songs is to convey the idea that navigating through hardships can lead to personal growth and resilience.

Arthur Miguel views ‘MU’ as a platform for artistic exploration and growth, aiming to expand his musical horizons and redefine his artistic identity.
