SUPACELL ENDING EXPLAINED: DOES MICHAEL SAVE DIONNE FROM DYING?

Netflix's latest sci-fi Supacell has got viewers gripped. Having released last Thursday (June 27), eager fans have blitzed through all six episodes already.

The sci-fi series from Rapman explores the lives of five black South Londoners who suddenly develop superpowers. The Jay-Z endorsed series stars Doctor Who's Tosin Cole as Michael Lasaki, a delivery driver who's living the dream - and madly in love with his fiancée Dionne (played by Adelayo Adedayo).

Discovering he can time travel, Michael quickly learns that beloved Dionne's life is in danger. He must assemble a group of other unlikely superheroes in order to save the woman he loves.

They are: nurse Sabrina (Nadine Mills) who has telekinesis, gang member Tazer (Josh Tedeku) who has the power of invisibility and drug dealer Rodney (Calvin Demba) who now possesses super speed.

It goes without saying, but the rest of this article contains major spoilers for Supacell.

Our protagonists face a number of obstacles throughout the season - including being terrorised by hooded figures and the mystery of the military-like organisation keeping those with superpowers as prisoners. The action-packed final episode divulges exactly what's happening.

Viewers eventually learn that the seemingly abandoned Ashington Estate is, in fact, the headquarters of The Organisation - the military-like group run by Ray (Eddie Marsan) and sickle cell nurse Victoria (Siân Brooke). The Organisation has been building an army of those with Supacell, the same mutated sickle cell gene that sees our protagonists gain powers.

In a twist, the fifth person Michael needed to find to help save Dionne's life - Andre (Eric Kofi Abrefa) - is, in fact, revealed as a hoodie for The Organisation. And Jasmine, whose disappearance Dionne was investigating, is being held at The Organisation's estate too, while we learn Tazer's mother had never abandoned him. She's instead revealed as the woman killed by The Organisation at the very start of the series.

Michael's rag-tag group of heroes, and Dionne, descend on Ashington Estate and clash with The Organisation's hoodies in shocking scenes. It soon transpires that Krazy - Tazer's brother-like figure - is head of the hoodies. He has the convenient superpower of channelling the powers of whoever is around him.

Andre, luckily, switches sides and joins Michael's group after realising how corrupt The Organisation - and Krazy - truly is. It's a good job too, as all the hoodies are killed - except for Krazy. He tells Michael's crew he's happy to surrender, luring Rodney forward so he can channel his super-speed.

He doesn't hold back, leaving our protagonists for dead in a brutal attack. Mustering the last of his energy, Michael is able to turn back time to when Krazy starts to surrender. Now, Michael stabs him multiple times, leaving him for dead.

Does Michael save Dionne?

Before he's struck down, though, Krazy shoots a bullet from a gun in his hands. It misses the core five Supacellers but penetrates the windshield of the car Dionne is sitting in. She's hit before stumbling out of the car, covered in blood.

Falling into Michael's arms, he yelps as he realises he doesn't have enough energy left to turn back time and save Dionne from her tragic fate. She dies, then Michael scarpers.

A few weeks later, he requests for the group to meet up. There, Michael vows to travel to the future, to seek revenge on those who have hurt them. This could lead us nicely into a second season - which, of course, hopeful fans are desperate for.

Will there be a second season of Supacell?

As for whether Supacell will be getting a second season, it's too early to tell since the series has only just been released. The decision to renew the show will depend on several factors, including its popularity among viewers.

However, Rapman, the creator of the show, hinted at future seasons in an interview with Radio Times, saying: "For the beginning of the show, I always tell everyone that season one of Supacell to me is like Batman Begins. It's just beginning. You've got to see where it goes next to see who these people really are."

For now, fans will just have to wait and see if another season is commissioned.

Supacell is available to stream now on Netflix.
